Coaching Philosophy

Coaching can be very beneficial to anyone from children to adults.  Being a coach can impact a child in many ways that you couldn’t even imagine.  As coaches we have the opportunity to teach athletes the game but also important life lessons like respect, honor, and integrity.  In observance of the NASPE coaching standards, I stress ethics, development, communication, and tactics.

·         Ethics (Domain 1):  My beliefs lie in creating an environment the athletes where they can develop their selfless behavior toward players, team mates, coaches, and officials.  I believe the best way to teach through example.  My example exerts respect, honor, and a shining light with God.  My ethics come from showing kindness to my fellow man and showing respect where respect is earned.

·         Development (Domain 4):  This is a primary goal that all coaches should have on their list.  If you don’t push your athletes to develop their skills, what is the point of being a coach?  I feel the main aspect of coaching is development not only of the physical but the mental.  During my career as an athlete I learned more things mentally than I did physically.  I learned things like working together in groups, maintaining stress levels, and improving situational thinking.  I feel that sports are one of the best things in development of a child.  But along with the mental aspect of sports, there is a physical aspect.  Sports would be the greatest way for our kids to get in shape and not be overweight.

·         Tactics (Domain 6): As a coach, empowering your players should be a requirement.  Empowering your athletes can help with development, responsibility, and learning the game.  This allows the athletes to think through situations without having to walk athletes through the process of the situation.  Empowering athletes also help with developing sport-specific skills to improve on the field.

I am very compassionate and devoted to my coaching performance so that the athletes can have success on and off the field.  I will continue to pursue more experience in sport as a coach giving me the opportunity to observe and learn new experiences to better myself and my athletes.
